Less than a year ago, my wife and I were living in Cincinnati when she received a job offer from a company in Spartanburg. Our immediate reaction, 'Umm... Where?' Fortunately, we both had opportunities to check out the area before we made our decision to move, and we're both absolutely ecstatic that we did. The Upstate of South Carolina has exceeded every expectation that we had of it: Beautiful scenery, affordable living costs, excellent food, an abundance of art and culture, friendly people — I could wax on for a while, but to really understand, you'd have to come and visit. Otherwise, you'll think that all of us are exaggerating.

I was blown away by the impressive list of national and international companies located here, the very active downtown area, and the infectious civic pride the locals have for their community. This place is alive!

I moved to the Upstate less than a year ago from Mobile, Alabama. It's the first time in my life I haven't lived on or near the water, and I wasn't too sure how I felt about that. Well, little did I know there are TONS of lakes around here. And mountains. Wow. Add in the amazing downtown restaurants and bars, and I really was blown away. I don't plan on leaving anytime soon.

I love showing off Greenville to my out-of-town friends. Atlantans, New Yorkers, Oregonians. They cannot believe how much there is to do here - art, theater, restaurants, shopping and the great outdoors. Oh and there is NO traffic!

Having moved here two years ago from Chicago, I am still surprised by something else, pretty much weekly. A new area, activity, shop, restaurant etc. Greenville (and the Upstate) is an amazing place to live, work and call home.

My son and his family live in the Greenville area. We have been visiting him for the last 10 years and have had the opportunity to experience all aspects of the upstate. First, the city of Greenville is outstanding. Whetther you are a young couple or retirees there is something to do for everyone. The restaurants, entertainment, out door activities and rides into the foothills of the Smokies are all fabulous. As a business man, I was surprised at the growth in this area. It seems like a wonderful place to conduct business. Top notch colleges and universties are nearby and the business climate seems open and accepting. My son and his family love living in the Greenville area and we enjoy visitng them. There is always plenty to do.

Last week I had the opportunity to visit a friend who lives in Clemson, SC, but who previously lived in Charlotte and Greenville. I was, therefore, fortunate to get the tour of the entire area and BOY HOWDY was I impressed! I live in the desert area of Texas so was knocked away by the beauty of TREES. Then there was the shopping experience unlike anthing I have ever seen. OH ... did I mention those tall green trees? Seriously, papers are probably being served on my husband in West Texas as I write this. Don't want to leave heaven when I've just found it!

Well, I originally moved to the area from upstate NY about 10 months ago. I have to say when my fiance' approached me with the idea, I was quite apprehensive. All my friends told me it was "slower" down here and that people from other areas of the country tend to "not fit in". Not being sure this is where I wanted to settle, I did some online research, and to my surprise it looked MUCH nicer than I had expected(obviously). I spoke with people about jobs, taxes, price of gas(ha) an everything I looked at just made me more interested, so we planned a visit. I have to say the first time we pulled into downtown Greenville it was like I just knew this was where I wanted to be, so many happy faces, beautiful buildings, friendly people, gorgeous parks, great restaurants, the quality of life here is just awesome. Two months later we moved here, and I have to say I have no regrets. For what I was paying for a 1000sq ft. apartment in NY I got a gorgeous 3 bdrm house on Lake Saluda. We both found great jobs, my fiance' with the school district and me in one of the great downtown restaurants, and we are both in a much better financial place as a result. So as we are planning to get married here in the upstate area within the next few months and really settle, I can't help but realize how much better my life is as a result of moving here, and that is why I was blown away.

When my company offered me a promotion to transfer from St. Louis to Greenville, my first thought was, "Where in the world is Greenville, South Carolina?" But, I came down for the interview and was amazed by the beauty, the friendliness of the people and the overall quality of life. That was 14 years ago, and Greenville has only gotten better since. I haven't regretted moving here once.

I grew up in Orlando, FL, but moved to Greenville to go attend school at Furman University. As I was graduating high school, I never imagined I'd stay in SC after graduation, but I fell in love with the Upstate during my time in college -- particularly the downtown. I can't get enough of it! You can probably find me standing on the Falls Park bridge carrying ice cream from Spill the Beans at least once a week.
