Well, I originally moved to the area from upstate NY about 10 months ago. I have to say when my fiance’ approached me with the idea, I was quite apprehensive. All my friends told me it was “slower” down here and that people from other areas of the country tend to “not fit in”.
Not being sure this is where I wanted to settle, I did some online research, and to my surprise it looked MUCH nicer than I had expected(obviously). I spoke with people about jobs, taxes, price of gas(ha) an everything I looked at just made me more interested, so we planned a visit.
I have to say the first time we pulled into downtown Greenville it was like I just knew this was where I wanted to be, so many happy faces, beautiful buildings, friendly people, gorgeous parks, great restaurants, the quality of life here is just awesome.
Two months later we moved here, and I have to say I have no regrets. For what I was paying for a 1000sq ft. apartment in NY I got a gorgeous 3 bdrm house on Lake Saluda. We both found great jobs, my fiance’ with the school district and me in one of the great downtown restaurants, and we are both in a much better financial place as a result.
So as we are planning to get married here in the upstate area within the next few months and really settle, I can’t help but realize how much better my life is as a result of moving here, and that is why I was blown away.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and feeling burned out by the drearing weather and oppressive taxes, my husband and I decided it was time for a change. We researched many areas and decided to make the easy drive to Greenville. One visit to downtown and Reedy River Park and we were sold! This place is the gem of the South; a growing, thriving community , and a great place to do business.(I am a Real Estate agent) Our only regret is not doing this sooner!

Our family moved to the Greenville area 18 years ago. We have throughly enjoyed raising our 2 children in such a wonderful, safe area. We have seen first hand the growth of the area and the many recreational, cultural, entertainment, and just plain fun things to do in our city. There is always an event going on, such as, Fall for Greenville, the Greenville Drive Baseball games, concerts at the Peace Center, races, or just taking a leisurely walk across the Liberty Bridge by the Reedy River.
I am in real estate and I have told my clients what I have told my husband for years…“If you move…send me Big Checks…because I am not moving”!
But, our little secret is getting out with Greenville being listed as the 4th best place to live. I continue to be “Blown away” by Greenville and look forward to many more wonderful years here witnessing the positive growth.

We discovered Greenville “by accident”, but once we’d visited, we couldn’t get the place out of our minds. For years as we traveled about on vacations, we would write down features we liked in each locale, gradually developing our “wish list” for what we wanted when we relocated to our dream location. Greenville fulfilled all our requirements - it had about 95% of everything we were looking for - mild weather, colleges, sports, theater, an international community, continuing educational events, water, forests, close to airports, excellent restaurants…. We bought a place right downtown and can hardly wait to move into it. Now we just need jobs!
